ESSILOR VISION FOUNDATION IN ASEAN
In 2014, Essilor Vision Foundation was launched in Singapore with the objective of unifying the philanthropic activities of Essilor, market leader in ophthalmic optics, in South East Asia. Essilor Vision Foundation has collaborated with many like-minded organisations to deploy a range of charitable initiatives ranging from vision screenings, donation of eyeglasses, as well as educational campaigns on the importance of good vision and regular eye tests.
IMPACT OF UNCORRECTED POOR VISION
Uncorrected poor vision is the world’s most common disability. 1 in 3 people can’t see the world clearly with 90% living in developing countries, yet its impact on society is largely unrecognised. Seeing well improves everything – from being able to read and do well in school, to increasing employability and improving personal well-being. According to the World Health Organisation, 80% of visual impairment can be prevented or cured.
BARRIERS TO EYE CARE
Too many people simply don’t know they can’t see clearly. Many of them have never had an eye test or know the impact of good vision.
Many people don’t have access to conventional distribution channels.
Many do not have the financial resources to afford proper eye care.
