On 6 June 2018, Essilor’s HR AMERA team worked with Essilor Vision Foundation (EVF) to screen close to 150 villagers at Lam Toi Ting, a small village in the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand and an estimated 90% received glasses the same day.

The HR AMERA team was joined by representatives from Greater China HR, Global Talent Management and Global Learning & Development.

To gain a better understanding of what EVF eye screenings were about and how they were executed, the eye screening allowed volunteers to rotate between various eye screening stations; from registration, refraction and the dispensing of eyeglasses.

With this project, the team was able to experience the work required at each station. As the villagers were predominantly farmers with limited access and awareness to good vision care, the team educated the villagers on the importance of taking care of one’s eyes, and shared relevant advice with them – all in the local language!

It was a heartwarming sight to see Essilor employees volunteering together as a department, with everyone ready and eager to help. The team definitely received more than they gave, and were rewarded with wide smiles and thumbs-up all around from the beneficiaries.
